November 6

As I've said a number of times in the last fourteen months or so, the sky is not falling, the grass is still green (except where the drought has left it brown), and the Constitution of the United States is still intact. Those things are true no matter who won what election yesterday, and no matter whether you're happy with the election results or not.

I was confronted with a rather odd problem at work today. I wanted to move my telephone off my desk and onto a credenza. The telephone cord came up through one of those handy little cord slots in the desk. Should have been quite easy to drop said cord back through the slot and pull it from the other side. It wasn't. Somehow, the cord was caught to the back of the desk, which is against the wall.

Upon further investigation, I discovered that there was glue involved. Apparently at some point, a bottle of glue had managed to get itself spilled over the edge of the desk, making a sticky place on the desk itself and on the floor, and attaching the cord to the desk.

I realized I would need another pair of hands, so I called for backup from Wendy. She realized the cord was also caught just under the desk's pedestal, so we were faced with tilting the desk, avoiding the sticky place, and pulling the cord. Wendy saw that this was a three-person operation, so she got more backup from TC. We finally succeeded, with minimal supervision from Zoe.

The rest of the day was busy, but glue-free.
