Current Slang

It's time for another public service announcement. This one is meant to inform those who are perhaps past the point in life where keeping up with current slang is necessary for social gatherings.

I'm not in touch with all the slang, either, but I do know the most current slang meanings of at least two terms that I've seen used several times recently. Both terms have been around a long time, and meanings do change over the years.

The first term is water sports. If you're talking about swimming or something else that involves a large body of water, you're probably safe to assume the meaning taken is as you intended, and clearly not sexual. But if you are talking about any other setting, it is likely that the term could be taken to mean the use of urine in sexual situations. If that is what you mean, so be it. If not, you might want to come up with another term.

The other one is glory hole. This term in slang has to do with a literal hole, used to facilitate anonymous sexual encounters in public settings. That's what I first learned it to mean, reading a novel a lot of years ago. Apparently long before that time, it meant a place of hard work. But these days I suspect the majority of people think of the sexual context. I thought you might want to know that before announcing that's where you plan to spend the afternoon. Unless, of course, that's where you're heading.

The study of slang can be a very useful thing!
