Shouting - November 10

The adventure for the day included a lot of shouting. I was the audience for it, and was treated to a performance by one very angry young man. He looked to be no older than twenty, and was incredibly upset that he could not find a ride to a city a few counties over on an upcoming morning.

Why he needed to be there was to appear in court, on what he described as a misdemeanor charge. He was on the bus, and was shouting this into his cell phone as we rode from the office complex toward downtown Chapel Hill.

Apparently along with this misdemeanor charge he is also facing one other of those and a felony to go along with the mix. And the demeanor he was exhibiting on the bus made it a little hard for his fellow passengers to have much sympathy for him.

He not only was shouting, he was sitting in such a way that he blocked the aisle, and took his time rearranging himself when it came time for people to board the bus. When he was through with the phone call he looked around the bus and saw a friend seated a row or two behind me.

So he got up from where he had been seated and stood behind me to talk to his friend. The bus wasn't so crowded that he couldn't have sat down beside said friend, but for whatever reason he chose to stand. This means that any possible bit of the tale of woe I hadn't heard the first time I definitely had a second chance to hear. Lucky me!

As it happened, the friend was able to give the young man some decent advice about getting to the city in question. This advice was delivered at top volume, perhaps in keeping with the tone set by the young man.

I was quite glad the two of them chose to get off the bus at the next stop. That made the adventure be all over, including the shouting.
