I wish someone could coherently explain to me what is supposed to be so problematic about same-sex marriages...I mean, why do heterosexual marriages need a defense? I think that's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

And the ruling in Massachusetts has brought the wannabe defenders out in force.

Are those who would defend heterosexual marriage afraid the gays and lesbians in their midst will take all the wedding cakes? Are they afraid the ceremonies will be lovelier than those for hetero couples? Are they worried about the etiquette of addressing envelopes to the newly-wedded couple?

It must be something along those lines. Otherwise, it's just another example of bigoted thought in our midst.

Those who would put forth the notion of civil unions instead of marriage for same-sex couples need to realize that these unions aren't an appropriate thing. Civil unions also stem from bigoted thought. You know---the same sort of bigoted thought that led to segregated schools and other forms of separate-but-equal treatment. That treatment which was outlawed a long time ago.

The next thing that should be outlawed? Bans on same-sex marriage.
