March 30

Full circle, apparently.

Earlier this month a new member to the links group made a complete ass of himself in posts to the group. He wanted major changes made, and was not willing to take no for an answer. It was another case wherein someone thought if he asked the same question different ways, he'd get the answer he wanted. He didn't.

But his wanting to disrupt everything seemed to serve as catalyst, and there are significant changes happening, as of April 1. No more requirement of reciprocal links. That one part is a very good thing.

It seems there were quite a few people who were having trouble keeping up with the updates. And another quite a few who just didn't keep the updates going, without saying why. My guess is that they were overwhelmed with other things and didn't have time. It was a chore.

Anyway, there were many links missing from sites when the "links cops" went looking. And the upshot is that from now on, all links will be considered privately arranged. This will prevent some of the sanctimony, even if it will be a little cumbersome.

The group itself will still take requests for links from new members, and it will be up to each group member to accept or reject links. The focus of the group will now be on other aspects of websites, mainly on search engine optimization. It will be fun to watch---there are several hotheads in the bunch.

Oh---since Mr. Ass-of-Himself joined after the last update, and since he was not obligated to have the master list on his site until the (now not happening) April 1 update, many of us do not yet have links on his site. And in my case, that's fine. I do not want to be associated with him, and will definitely not ask to be included.

And why do I think this is full circle? Well, it takes us back to where we were about eighteen months ago, before any of these people were in a reciprocal links group at all. This particular wheel has been uninvented. Which, since it had entirely too many patches, will be a good outcome.
